Charlie Coatsworth had long been known as the “Emporer of the Nieghborhood”. This was not so much because of his regal bearing or any tendancy to order his neighbors around as though they were minions. It was in fact because he looked very much like an emperor penguin. Their’s was not a close relationship, but the continued in amicable tolerance, each prefering the status quo to the uncertainty of any new arrangement. Charlie liked to tell her, “Take as long as you need on you trip. Those fish are important to both of us.”
